The Newsletter
What is it?
The Peak Weekly is an email newsletter designed to share updates, events, business spotlights and more for the Town of Apex, NC. The goal is to consolidate all of the information out there into one easy-to-read resource. The email is sent out once per week on Thursdays around 6:03am. Our first email went out on January 9, 2025.
Why Thursdays? And, Why 6:03am?
We figured Thursday was a good time to get ahead of the weekend events. It’s a pretty good mix of recapping the week and setting you up for the coming week. We send it out at 6:03am, though it may hit your inbox a few minutes later. For some reason, I’ve always hated round numbers. 6:00, 6:15… that’s so cliche. And truthfully, the other reason is really marketing related. It’s strange enough that it catches your attention and if you are subscribed to any other newsletter that sends theirs at 6am, our email comes in right after and on top of that email. Smart, right?!
Where Do You Find All of the Information?
If you are subscribed, or if you have read any of the previous emails, you can probably tell that a lot of time goes into this. We source information from the town’s website, social media, other publications and the news, search engines, and a few other places. We get a lot of user-submissions as well with the community providing information to us directly, which is extremely helpful!
How Does the Publication Make Money?
Well, it doesn’t. We are still in the early stages of building this, learning from our subscribers what they want, and making improvements as we go. In a way, we’re still figuring this all out. We will have to monetize it at some point. Transparently, I can’t continue to devote this much time to it for free over the long term. With that said, I’m dedicated to keeping advertisements out of the email. I’m working on a few ideas that will allow me to monetize without sacrificing the quality of the email.
The Author
Who are you?
My name is Adam Whitaker. I was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana and moved to Apex with my wife and kids in 2021.
I own a digital marketing company, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan (I know, I hate that about me too), and I am obsessed with my new pellet smoker.
There is this saying in the marketing world that goes, “Marketers ruin everything.” As a marketer, I think that is so true. Think about Facebook in the early days. Nothing but content from your friends and family sharing pictures of their kids and pets. Then they open up advertising and now your feed is flooded with ads from marketers. That’s just how it goes, which is fine.
But I am, and always will remain, dedicated to keeping advertisements out of this email newsletter and not ruining it.
